Southwick House has received a five-figure grant from the Sunflower Foundation.
Executive Director Susan Brinkman says the $18,000 grant will be used for what she calls capacity-building activities, including board and donor development initiatives as well as the agency’s website. Funds come from the foundation’s Capacity Building Program, “Strengthening Our Sector: Stronger Nonprofits for a Healthy Kansas.” The Southwick House requset was one of over 300 received by the foundation.
Southwick House is in the behind-the-scenes phase for resuming services for women in crisis situations, filling the local niche left open when Plumb Place ended operations in late 2020. Besides filling out its Board of Trustees and writing policies for financial matters, anti-discrimination issues and board ethics, Southwick House was also designated as a United Way of the Flint Hills Community Partner this past fall.
Brinkman and Board President Jeremy Dorsey will have an update on KVOE’s 7:05 am Newsmaker segment Friday.
