A historic season for the Emporia High girls basketball team received more accolades to its credit with the All-Centennial League Awards announced Thursday night.
Emporia High had its starting five all receive honors along with coach Carolyn Dorsey, who was named the Centennial League Coach of the Year for the third time in her 11 seasons as head coach. Addie Kirmer and Lexsey Dewitt are first team selections, with Kirmer being named the Centennial League Player of the Year. Alexa Shivley and Emeil Bennett are second team selections, with Ryan Peak receiving honorable mention.
Dorsey said she’s fortunate enough her colleagues within the Centennial League voted her as the League’s Coach of the Year.
Dorsey said having five players honored was the show of their hard work paying off.
Emporia High finished its season with a 22-3 record and a fourth place finish in the Class 5A State Tournament. It was Emporia High’s first placing at state since 2009. The season also produced the first Centennial League championship for the Lady Spartans since 1997.
