Emporia State’s Peterson Planetarium is back open, and it’s more user-friendly than before.
A renovation project started this past summer, involving new carpet, new seats and new technology for the projector. Planetarium Director and physics instructor Mark Brown says the new technology gives attendees more chances to take a hands-on approach with the different shows, whether public or private. Brown also says the planetarium is a unique way to get solid science information to the masses.
Now that the planetarium has reopened, it has scheduled several public shows, including a live night sky tour as well as a full-dome presentation on the seasons called “Dancing Among the Stars.” Brown says Thursday’s presentation went over capacity, which is 34 people.
The next public shows are March 28, April 11 and April 25, with plans for May and summer presentations currently pending.
The planetarium also had a special presentation on the upcoming April 8 solar eclipse Thursday as well as its 65th anniversary earlier this month.
The Peterson Planetarium is in Cram Science Hall Room 72. Residents can call 620-342-5636 or email stemoutreach@emporia.edu for information. Click here for more information.
