Lyon County’s advance voter turnout has been low for the Presidential Preference Primary.
County Clerk and Election Officer Tammy Vopat says the turnout as of the close of business Thursday was two percent, with under 450 total votes cast. This includes less than 240 in-person voting, less than 200 mail ballots and three absentee votes through the Uniformed and Oversees Citizens Absentee Voting Act.
The state’s first Presidential Preference Primary in over 30 years is officially Tuesday, but President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump sealed their party nominations earlier this week.
Advance voting ends at noon Monday before the Tuesday’s election, which will take place from 7 am to 7 pm. All polling places used in last year’s election cycle will be available to voters Tuesday. Meanwhile, Friday is the day for election board workers to be trained. About 80 people are going through the training process.
