A damaged gas line led to a brief evacuation of a home in central Emporia Saturday afternoon.
According to Emporia Fire Captain Michael Nunley, EFD and Kansas Gas Service were called to a residence at 927 Mechanic just after 2:50 pm. Nunley tells KVOE News a tenant of the residence was weed-eating around the home and struck a gas line causing the leak.
Emergency crews shut off gas to the home and Kansas Gas conducted the needed repairs to the damaged line. Traffic on Mechanic from 9th to 10th was blocked for roughly 30 minutes as a result of the leak.
Two individuals were evacuated from the house. No injuries were reported.
