The Emporia State baseball team scratched out the game’s only run to defeat Rogers State 1-0 on Sunday at the Trusler Sports Complex and win their series against the Hillcats 2-1. Joe Daneff tripled to left center to drive in the only score of the game. Daneff finished 2-for-3. Ian Lanik (2-1) scattered three hits over 7.0 innings with five strikeouts to earn the win. Eli Hernandez picked up his first save of the season by shutting out the ‘Cats allowing just one hit while getting the final six outs. Head coach Brad Hill talked about the performance of his pitching after the game.
Lanik talked about his approach in the victory.
With the victory, Hill picked up his 900th career victory as a collegiate head baseball coach. He said he had a lot of help getting there.
E-State improves to 14-13 with the win and 5-8 in the MIAA. Emporia State plays their final nonconference home game of the year Tuesday against Northwestern State. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
