Cool, dry and blustery conditions are setting up a very high fire danger areawide for the rest of Sunday.
High temperatures will struggle to the low 50s after highs narrowly missed 70 degrees Saturday afternoon. However, relative humidity levels will drop to 30 percent or less and wind speeds will gust as high as 30 mph.
Rain fell as part of severe thunderstorm activity Wednesday night, but 0.30 inches or less were recorded areawide and Emporia totals were 0.05 inches or less. The last significant rainfall for the area was March 7, when residents reported 1.2-2.7 inches of rain.
