The Emporia Recreation Commission Board voted Monday evening to adjust the change process of the new rec center’s steering committee’s MOU.
Instead of a 5-2 majority as in the case earlier, Rec board members voted 4-1 to require a 7-0 vote for any future adjustments. Ryan Karjala was the lone nay in the vote.
Board Chair Jeremy Dorsey says he made a motion to make the vote 6-1, but it was Emporia City Commission and ERC Board member Erren Harter’s request to make it 7-0. Dorsey says with this change, he hopes the City Commission, Lyon County Commission, and the USD 253 Board of Education can agree with this change.
Dorsey says he’s optimistic to hear an update from the steering committee and what City Commissioners want to do moving forward. The steering committee meets at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Emporia Recreation Center.
In other business, board members heard updates on the KSHSAA 5A State Basketball Tournament at White Auditorium. They also heard an update on new rugs and furniture in the building.
The ERC board meets again on April 15 at 5:30 p.m.
