4 pm Tuesday: Lyon County turnout passes 5 percent
Lyon County’s voter turnout for the Presidential Preference Primary has gone above 5 percent, thanks to modest voting numbers for the election day.
County Clerk and Election Officer Tammy Vopat says over 500 registered voters have cast their ballots at polling places across the county Tuesday, coupled with about 500 advance votes over the last two weeks.
The status of about 100 mail ballots sent out early in the process is currently pending.
Voting officially ends at 7 pm.
This is the state’s first Presidential Preference Primary since 1992. It’s being held separately from the state’s traditional election cycle, including the primary Aug. 6 and the general election Nov. 5.
KVOE will have results after the polls close and votes are tabulated.
