The Emporia High baseball team is looking to take strides in the right direction this spring.
The Spartans open up their season with a doubleheader at Ottawa on Thursday.
Emporia High finished 2-18 in 2023, however, will still be a young team in 2024. The Spartans have one senior on the roster with Aiden Ewing, while the remaining core of the roster is full of juniors and sophomores. Ewing said the Spartans are being the underdogs this year.
Also returning for Emporia High are juniors Owen Ruge, Madden Seidl and Andrew Ruxton. Emporia High coach Anthony Markowitz said the first three weeks of practice have been good for the Spartans.
Emporia High’s first home doubleheader will be on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Wichita South at Soden’s Grove.
