Emporia High sophomore Allisyn Weiss qualified for state Thursday in the Emporia High Invitational. Weiss began her sophomore season with a first-place finish with a score of 246.10. Weiss said it was a good start to the season.
Junior Brooke Monroe finished ninth with a score of 144.20. Monroe also finished eighth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:25.40.
The top finish on the swim side was the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Ryan Peak, Connelly Prouse, Taylor Cunningham and Monroe finished sixth with a time of 2:09.19.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Monroe, Camryn Spafford, Avery Grimwood and Taylor Cunningham finished eighth with a time of 2:32.45.
Peak was sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:09.93 and took ninth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 30.21.
Freshman Bailey Wiltz finished 10th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:35.80.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Peak, Prouse, Spafford, and Adeiah Heffner finished ninth with a time of 4:58.53.
Emporia High coach Jamie Dawson said the Lady Spartans did meet a goal for the meet, finishing higher than Topeka High and Junction City. The Lady Spartans finished fifth with 220 points behind team champion Free State, Washburn Rural, Manhattan and Lawrence.
Emporia High will head to Andover on Tuesday.
