The Emporia State split their doubleheader with Lincoln in Jefferson City, Mo. on Friday. The Lady Hornets held on for a 3-2 win in game one but lost 4-3 in the ninth inning in game two. ESU built a 3-0 lead through the first two innings in game one. Alexis Dial drove in Emma Furnish on a ground-rule double before a groundout and a Furnish single plated two in the second. The Blue Tigers scored two in the seventh but couldn’t complete the comeback. Gracie Rabe (6-5) lasted 6.2 innings while scattering nine hits and allowing just two runs to pick up the win.
ESU plated the first run of game two but LU immediately took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first. ESU chipped away with a bases loaded walk in the fourth and a Jordan Harrison RBI single to tie the game in the seventh, but the Blue Tigers scored from second on a single to centerfield to win. Harrison pitched 7.2 innings of relief after Jayda VanAckeren left the game after facing nine batters allowing three runs. Harrison scattered four hits with seven strikeouts but took the loss.
The Lady Hornets move to 20-13 on the year and 4-6 in MIAA action. ESU travels to Warrensburg, Mo. to face Central Missouri Saturday. First pitch for the doubleheader is set for 12:00 p.m.
