The #17/No. 4 Kansas men’s basketball team never trailed but had to hang on for a 93-89 over No. 13 Samford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Salt Lake City, UT last night. The Jayhawks led by as many as 22 points in the second half, but the Samford Bulldogs shot 16-for-37 from the arc in the game and cut the deficit all the way to one, but Nick Timberlake hit late free throws to keep the Jayhawks in front. Timberlake finished 3 of 6 on threes with a KU career high of 19 points while Hunter Dickinson finished with 19 points and 20 rebounds. K. J. Adams scored 20 for the ‘Hawks. KU improves to 23-10 and will play Gonzaga in the second round on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2:15 p.m.
