Pancakes have been bringing people together for generations, and that was in full evidence again Saturday as the Kiwanis Club of Emporia had its 76th annual pancake feed at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building.
Club member Lorrin Strohm was beaming at the turnout.
Proceeds typically go into a range of projects for the community, especially youth, and that will be the case again this year. Totals are pending and are unlikely to be released until early April. Strohm says fundraising this year was helped in part by the number of ticket outlets — Country Mart, Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce, Mark II Lumber, Sutherlands, Trolley House Distillery and Waters Hardware — as well as the club’s first foray into an online ticket-buying option and the help of a lengthy list of sponsors. There were also several raffle items and an auction featuring an antique quilt and an Evora Wheeler pie.
Last year, the Kiwanis Club raised money for a new shelter house near the Peter Pan Park splash pad. Strohm says groundbreaking will take place soon.
