The Emporia High baseball team picked up its first two wins of the season on Saturday afternoon against Wichita South at Soden’s Grove.
Emporia High won the opener, 9-0, before taking the finale, 12-0, in five innings. In game one, the Spartans got a complete game shutout from Chase Harrington and Landon Wohletz. Harrington had 11 strikeouts in six innings. Andrew Ruxton had two RBIs while Micah Gray went 2-for-2 at the plate. In game two, the Spartans got a one-hit shutout from Owen Ruge, who had 13 strikeouts in five innings. Ruxton and Gray each went 3-for-3 at the plate while Harrington drove in three.
Emporia High coach Anthony Markowitz said the Spartan pitchers went out and did their job.
Emporia High (2-2) will be off until April 2 when it hosts Junction City at 4 p.m. at Soden’s Grove.
