The Lady Hornet softball team used two late comebacks to take two from the Jennies in Warrensburg, Mo. on Saturday winning game one 9-8 and game two 9-6. ESU trailed early in game one as Central Missouri scored three in the bottom of the first. After E-State took the lead with four in the third, Central regained the lead with four of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Hornets trailed 8-6 going into the seventh but took advantage of three Jenny errors before Emma Furnish laid down a suicide squeeze bunt to score Abbey Ward for the go ahead run. Alexis Dial finished 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, and five RBI. Kelly Hipsher (1-0) tossed the last two innings and shutout UCM for the win.
In game two, trailing 6-0 through five, the Lady Hornets exploded for seven runs in the sixth to take the lead. Dial started the scoring with a double before Josie Harrison drove in two with a double of her own. After a bases-loaded walk scored a run, McKensy Glass plated two with a single to center. ESU tacked on two more in the seventh to leave no doubt. Harrison finished 4-for-4 with three RBIs with a double and a home run while also tossing the last 4.1 innings of scoreless relief (5-3) to pick up the win.
