It was a sweep for the red teams in the Flint Hills Optimist All-Star Classic Saturday night at White Auditorium.
The girls red team defeated the girls blue team, 87-76, while the boys red team overcame a 17-point deficit to defeat the boys blue team, 79-75.
Olpe’s Grace Coughlin led the red team with 17 points and was named the Bryan Douglas Co-Most Valuable Player with Emporia High’s Addie Kirmer, who finished with 14 points. Coughlin said she didn’t expect this to happen in her final game in high school.
Red team coach Amanda Gutierrez said her team made shots when it mattered the most.
The blue team was Lebo’s Audrey Peek who had 13 points.
Lyndon’s Tanner Heckel led the charge in the comeback for the boys red team with 22 points and was named the boys MVP.
Red team coach Eric Porter said getting easy shots was key in the comeback.
Lyndon’s Daxten Miller led the boys blue team with 17 points.
Waverly’s Ben Meehan and Burlingame’s Kaylin Noonan were the recipients of scholarships drawn at Monday’s banquet.
