Emporia Main Street is typically busy, but it has a lot of things going over the next two weeks.
Main Street’s Downtown Emporia Eggstravaganza continues through Friday, and Director Casey Woods says there are still a few eggs available at downtown merchants.
Meanwhile, the annual Show of Hands pitch contest is Thursday at the Lyon County History Center third floor. This will involve four businesses seeking to launch. Tickets are $10 each for the contest, which starts at 5:30 pm. People attending can buy as many tickets as they like because they serve as votes for the different business presentations. Several local sponsors have also signed up to provide cash grants for the participating businesses.
In addition, Main Street continues soliciting votes as it was recently named as a USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Award nominee for Best Main Street. Emporia is currently third, behind Howell, Michigan, and Ogden, Utah — and voting ends April 8. People can vote daily. Click here for the link.
Main Street is also into its latest soldier care package drive — calling it a Home Town Thank You — to benefit units including local soldiers Sergeant First Class Shawn Eller, Sergeant Mason Harmon and Major Laura Pape. Items and monetary donations are now being collected through April 5.
On top of those events, Main Street is in late-stage planning for The Taste, which is coming April 13 at White Auditorium. Tickets are $50 apiece and can be purchased at emporiamainstreet.com.
