The 2024 Lyon County Community Baby Shower was a record-setter before a single pamphlet was passed out Wednesday.
According to organizers, more than 140 individuals registered for the informational event now in its ninth year of existence. Organizer Gail Barrett says there are several reasons for why she believes the event continues to see a strong turnout each year, including splitting the event into three sections, a change that came about a few years ago as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fellow organizer, and Newman Regional Health Chief Nursing Officer, Heather Aylward believes the event’s ever-expanding variety of information is another key reason for its success.
Director of Newman Regional Health’s Women’s Life Center Bobby Johnson says it is important to get this information to any and all parents, but especially those who are expecting.
The event welcomes parents of all situations including those who are expecting as well as a variety of non-traditional parents including foster parents, adoptive parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles or other legal guardians. Along with an opportunity to speak with local agencies and pick up needed information, parents also received a free Pack-N-Play courtesy of the Wade Barrett Memorial Fund.
