The Emporia State baseball team scored a ninth-inning run to force extras but couldn’t hold off the Bronchos in the 11th as Central Oklahoma escaped with a 7-6 victory in game one of their three game series in Edmond, Okla. on Thursday. The teams traded runs in the first before ESU took the lead in the second on a Joe Daneff double. A two-run UCO homer put the ‘Chos in the lead in the third before the Hornets retook the lead with on a T. J. Racherbaumer double and a Daneff sacrifice fly. After a second two-run dinger put the Bronze & Blue back on top, Daneff forced home another run after grounding into a double play in the sixth. UCO took the lead in the eighth before a Patryk Hernandez fielder’s choice tied the game in the ninth. UCO singled a 3-2 pitch through the left side to score with the bases loaded in the 11th to end it. Dom Oliverio went 3-for-4 and led ESU with three runs as the Hornets were outhit 13-8 in the game. Hayden Baumwart (2-2) took the loss in relief for ESU. Game two is set for Friday at 3:00 p.m.
