A second Lyon County department head has announced plans to retire.
County Clerk and Election Officer Tammy Vopat plans to end her career in county government after the upcoming general election.
Vopat becomes the second Lyon County official to announce upcoming retirement plans, following County Attorney Marc Goodman. Her announcement also dovetails with the filing of current Deputy Election Officer Amie Jackson for County Clerk whom Vopat formally endorsed while speaking with KVOE News Thursday morning.
An eight-year veteran of the department, Jackson says she is grateful for Vopat’s guidance.
Already announcing re-election plans have been Sheriff Jeff Cope, Treasurer Sharon Gaede and Register of Deeds Wendy Weiss. Second District Commissioner Doug Peck has also filed for re-election, as well as Republican challenger Sid Morgan. County Commissioner Rollie Martin has not announced whether he will seek re-election.
The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is noon June 3. The traditional primary election is Aug. 6, followed by the general election Nov. 5.
