Three Lyon County fire departments battled a grass fire that developed east of Emporia on Wednesday afternoon.
Early indications are a controlled burn went out of control near Roads 190 and V, about six miles east of Emporia’s eastern city limits and about five miles north-northwest of Neosho Rapids, shortly before 3 pm. Miller and Reading fire crews were initially called to the scene, followed soon afterward by Hartford-Neosho Rapids.
