The Emporia State men’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision at Nebraska-Kearney in MIAA/GAC play on Friday at Harmon Park in Kearney, Neb.. UNK took the doubles point with a 3-0 sweep over the Hornets in straight sets. Ranked at #1 singles, Anton Sarunic won 6-4, 6-2 to get ESU on the board and Mostafa Elbasnaly backed him up with a straight sets win at #2 singles, but the Lopers took the next three matches to clinch the match. Hachem Fahem salvaged a point with a three-set win at #6 singles. ESU falls to 8-5 on the year and 1-1 in MIAA/GAC play. ESU returns to action to host Washburn on Tuesday beginning at 2:00 p.m at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex in Emporia.
In women’s action, the #22 Lopers overwhelmed the Lady Hornets with a 7-0 shutout. Perla Conde and Sheriden Wichman won #3 doubles in a tiebreak but UNK took the other two matches for the doubles point. The ESU women didn’t take a set in singles matches facing three players who came into the duel ranked. E-State falls to 3-6 and 0-1 in MIAA play and returns to action tomorrow at Fort Hays State at 11:00 a.m.
