The Emporia State baseball team scored six in the first inning but couldn’t hold on in an 11-7 loss at Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla. on Friday night. The Hornets had a dream start with six runs in the first. It started with a leadoff walk followed by a hit batsmen and then a walk to load the bases. Dom Oliverio drove in two with a single before T. J. Racherbaumer drove in another run. After a Joe Daneff sacrifice fly, the Hornets took advantage of a a two-run fielding error by the Bronchos to take the early lead, but UCO scored the game’s next 10 runs including four in the seventh to take the lead for good. Mason Sturdy had a solo home run to cut the deficit in the eighth, but the Bronchos answered with their own solo shot in the bottom half of the inning. Ryan Sauter (0-2) didn’t record an out and gave up two hits and three earned runs to take the loss. Seven Hornets each had one hit in the game. ESU falls to 15-19 overall and 6-13 in the MIAA. The Black & Gold will try to salvage game three tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
