As has been the case throughout its history, what took weeks to prepare took only minutes to conclude as hundreds of families descended on Jones Park for the annual Flint Hills Optimist Easter Egg Hunt Saturday morning.
The 38th installment of the Easter tradition saw right around 16,000 pieces of candy scattered throughout the park for children between the ages of zero to nine to fill their Easter baskets with. And fill them they did as the event was over and done almost in the blink of an eye.
Optimist Club President and Hunt chairman Stan Fowler says they often refer to the event as the most exciting few minutes of the year and Saturday lived up to that monicker once again.
Fowler adds the best part of the event is seeing the enjoyment on the faces of the children as well as their parents.
In addition to the hundreds of families and Flint Hills Optimist Club members, the Easter Bunny was once again on hand for the event to pose for photos with those in attendance. Saturday’s Easter Egg hunt wrapped up what has been a busy few weeks for the club following the annual Optimist All-Star Basketball classic last Saturday at White Auditorium.
