Emporia State University ended its Women’s History Month activities with its annual reception and awards ceremony Friday.
Receiving the Ruth Schillinger Award for making extraordinary contributions to the women of Emporia State was Dawn McConkie, a professor of music and Interim Assistant Dean for the School of Visual and Performing Arts.
Receiving the Mary Headrick Award for promoting the growth of women at Emporia State and in the community was Kaila Mock, the owner of Trox Gallery and Gifts, a co-founder of the Emporia First Friday Art Walk and an SOS board member. She tells KVOE News she has made helping women part of her life’s work.
Also, the Susan B Anthony Scholarship for a student contributing “significantly to the growth and education of women on the ESU campus” was given to business accounting major Maria Paula Sanchez Aguirre.
