The Emporia and ESU communities met their new head basketball coach on Tuesday morning at the Sauder Alumni Center. Tom Billeter was introduced as the 18th head coach in ESU history replacing Craig Doty who departed to take the same job at Houston Christian. The new head coach said that his expectations are to win and do it from year one.
That matches up with what athletic director David Spafford said his search committee was looking for in a candidate.
Spafford said, much like the personality and energy of his new coach, the process was also uptempo.
Unsurprisingly, the new coach said his teams will also be playing fast.
For returning Hornet guard Cael McGee, he says that perfectly matches his game.
McGee talked about his role as a veteran returner on the team.
Coach Billeter says one of his main goals this week is to meet with the returning Hornets.
The Hornets are coming off a 19-12 season and will need to rework the entire starting lineup with at least eight players graduating or transferring from the program.
