The Emporia High softball team was swept by Washburn Rural on Tuesday at Peter Pan Park.
Washburn Rural took the opener, 5-2, before closing the doubleheader with a 10-1 victory in the finale.
In game one, Washburn Rural scored two in the second, one in the third and two in the fifth. Emporia High scored both of its runs in the fifth on an RBI single by sophomore Yzabel Ultreras and a bases-loaded walk that scored junior Bailey Schlesener. Sophomore Alivia Anno went 2-for-3 at the plate while going the distance in the circle while allowing five runs on seven hits and three strikeouts. Sophomore Marley Sewell and Ultreras also went 2-for-3 at the plate.
In game two, Washburn Rural scored one in the second and one in the third, before Emporia High scored its lone run in the fourth as senior Addie Kirmer stole home. Washburn Rural tacked on one in the fifth and added seven in the seventh. Anno went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Emporia High coach Tommy McClure said the Lady Spartans battled.
Emporia High is now 2-4 on the season, 0-2 in the Centennial League. The Lady Spartans host Junction City for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Friday at Peter Pan Park.
