Matters of economic development and strategic planning will be highlights for the Emporia City Commission when they convene for their regular action and study meetings Wednesday.
As part of their action agenda, commissioners will hold a public hearing and potentially approve the establishment of the Emporia West Plaza as a community improvement district. If approved, the CID would institute a two percent sales tax for all businesses within the plaza at 1312 Industrial Road.
Those revenues will be put towards an estimated $2.6 million in renovations for the property including parking lot improvements and roof updates.
Commissioners will also consider approving a series of appointments to the Emporia Land Bank and Emporia Public Library Board before considering a purchase for rear load solid waste collection trucks.
Following an executive session, commissioners will then move into their regular study session where they will conduct their second Strategic Visioning session utilizing results from a recent community survey on city operations.
The meetings will begin at 11 am with the action session inside of the Municipal Court Room at White Auditorium before moving to City Conference Room 1AB.
