Two Emporia High seniors signed National Letters of Intent on Wednesday to continue their basketball careers.
Sheldon Stewart signed to play for Emporia State. Stewart said it’s been a lifelong dream for him to play for the Hornets.
Stewart was a second-team All-Centennial League selection and an all-state honorable mention selection from Sports In Kansas and KSHSAA Covered. Stewart averaged 13 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Spartans. His career-high was 28 points against Washburn Rural on Feb. 23. Stewart is sixth all-time in assists at Emporia High.
Zayda Pearson signed to play for Bethany College in Lindsborg. Pearson said there are two things she wants to bring to her new team.
Pearson averaged 1.8 points per game in 23 games for the Lady Spartans. Pearson’s career high was six points, twice, against Hayden in 2023 and against Junction City on Feb. 3. Pearson is the second Lady Spartan to sign to continue to play basketball in college. Addie Kirmer signed in November to play for Emporia State.
