The Emporia State women’s tennis team battled but fell to #12 Washburn in the Turnpike Tussle at the Kossover Family Tennis Center on Wednesday. Washburn eked out the doubles point as Perla Conde and Sheriden Wichman won at #2 doubles for the Lady Hornets but Washburn won the other two doubles matches. Anastasia Pesic tied the duel with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #5 singles for ESU, but Washburn clinched the match with three consecutive wins after that at #1, #2, and #4 singles. Paige Stranghoner and Liz Bizouerne each won super tiebreakers to claim the last two points for ESU. Head coach Cycy Peyroche was happy with the team’s effort.
Emporia State hosts another Top 25 foe on Friday when #17 Northwest Missouri arrives for a 1:00 p.m. duel. The ESU men will also be in action against the Bearcats.
