Lyon County Controller Dan Williams now has the authority to make needed transfers between county accounts following action by Lyon County Commissioners Thursday morning.
As part of their regular action session, commissioners approved a resolution granting Williams the authority to transfer $500,000 from the county’s sales tax fund to the general fund quarterly through the remainder of 2024. While it was approved Thursday, the budget authority was deemed a necessary move during last year’s budgeting cycle to keep the general fund’s mill levy flat according to Williams.
This authority will allow Williams to transfer up to, but no more than, $2 million between the funds, however, Williams believes that may not be entirely necessary.
In other business Thursday, commissioners approved a resolution finding that the annexation of Emporia’s Industrial Park IV into the city limits would not have any negative impacts on county operations. This is the second time this resolution has come before commissioners after they tabled the matter last September to gain more clarification on who would be responsible for regular road maintenance in the area.
With the county’s action, the item will now go before Emporia City Commissioners for final approval at a later date.
Separately Thursday, commissioners also approved an agreement for consulting fees related to plumbing improvements at the Lyon County Jail totaling $71,000 and a better than $256,000 bid from the Noxious Weeds Department for weed spray chemicals.
Commissioners also reviewed and signed updated versions of the county’s vacation and sick leave, employee assistance program and worker’s compensation policies. One executive session for legal matters was also held with no action taken.
Commissioners will reconvene for their regular action meeting next Thursday at 9 am inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
