Emporia State split its Friday series at Nebraska-Kearney on Friday. Emporia State took game one against the Lopers 4-3. In the second inning, Abbey Ward stole her 125th career base, setting a new program record passing Morgan Viola. Trailed 3-1 going to the fourth before Alexis Dial hit a solo home run and McKensy Glass drove in two with a two-out RBI single to give the Lady Hornets the 4-3 lead they held onto in the win. UNK threatened loading the bases in the fifth and seventh but could not score.
The Lopers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game two of the doubleheader, but the Lady Hornets took the lead with four-straight runs thanks to a Dial single in the third, a Brooke Flewelling solo home run and Ward single in the fourth, and a Dial solo shot in the fifth. UNK tied the game in the fifth with a run before rallying with four in the sixth. ESU plated two in the seventh and got the winning run to the plate but couldn’t keep the inning going. ESU wraps up the week 26-17 and 10-10 in the MIAA and returns home to host Missouri Southern Friday. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
