Duane Droge has filed his paperwork to represent the Kansas House 13th District for a second term.
This will be the Eureka resident’s first time going through the election process. Droge was appointed to the seat after previous representative Joe Newland resigned following the 2022 election cycle to become president of the Kansas Farm Bureau.
Besides serving the district the past two years, Droge has been involved in veterinary medicine since 1980, growing up near Bern and receiving his veterinary degree from Kansas State University.
The 13th District covers southwest Lyon County, including the southwest corner of Emporia. It also includes Chase, Wilson and Woodson counties as well as Greenwood County north of Fall River and Severy.
Droge is currently unopposed. He has not responded to a request from KVOE News seeking comment on his upcoming run for re-election.
Separately, Republican incumbent Mark Schreiber and Democrat challenger Mic McGuire, both of Emporia, have filed for the House 60th District seat. There are currently no filings for the House 76th District seat currently represented by Eric Smith of Burlington.
In the Senate, there are no current filings for the 17th District seat held by Jeff Longbine of Emporia.
