The 1st annual Emporia Energy Shootout is set for Saturday at Peter Pan Park.
The tournament is a fundraiser to help increase softball in Emporia, allow for scholarships, and new equipment, and allow the organization to keep fees affordable for local kids to play competitive softball.
Ken’s Sharpening LLC made a donation program to cover expenses so they can use this tournament to raise some money for the Energy program. Ken’s Sharpening LLC Owner Mike Sauer said this is important to keep youth playing softball in Emporia, including his kids.
Community members bringing competitive youth softball to Emporia include Danielle Armitage, Sunny Griswold, and Ashley Conrade. Sauer said he gives the group credit for bringing back youth competitive softball to Emporia.
Games will start at 8:30 a.m. with pool play followed by a single elimination bracket play. The cost is $6 for adults and kids ages 5-17 will be $2. A concession stand will be available with everyone’s favorite ballpark snacks.
