The Emporia High baseball team had its four-game winning streak snapped at Washburn Rural on Friday.
Washburn Rural took the opener, 12-2, in five innings before taking the nightcap, 6-0.
The Junior Blues scored four in the third and three in the fourth before the Spartans scored two in the fifth. Micah Gray drove in two on a 2-run single. Washburn Rural tacked on five in the fifth for the mercy-rule win. Gray had the lone hit for the Spartans. Andrew Ruxton took the loss allowing four runs on three hits and two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.
In game two, Washburn Rural scored one in the second, added four in the fourth and one in the sixth. The Spartans were held to four hits with Gray tallying two. Luke Marshall took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs on 10 hits and one strikeout in three innings.
Emporia High is 4-4, 2-2 in Centennial League play. The Spartans host Topeka High next Friday at Soden’s Grove.
