The Emporia State baseball team started the weekend with a run rule in a 14-1 blowout at Missouri Western to start a three game series on Friday. ESU scored four in the second on an RBI single by Mason Sturdy before Kadyn Williams cleared the bases with a double. Joe Daneff drove in two in the fifth to make it 6-0 Hornets. ESU eventually led 9-0 after three runs in the sixth. After Western finally got on the board in the fifth, ESU put the hammer down with five in the eighth to slam the door shut on the Griffons. Jovanni Toledo went 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs while Williams drove in four and Daneff had three RBIs. Cade Barton finished with a quality start going 7.0 innings for the Hornets while scattering five hits and allowing just one run with six strikeouts to get the win. Game two of the series is Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
