A person was injured and a controlled burn became out of control following an ATV accident early Friday evening.
Emporia and Americus fire fighters were called to 2035 Road G just after 5:30 pm for a reported brush fire. Less than ten minutes later, Emporia/Lyon County EMS was called to the same location for a trauma.
According to Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage, an individual was conducting a controlled burn in the area and was riding an ATV. The driver crashed the vehicle for unlisted reasons and suffered undisclosed injuries.
Due to those injuries, the individual was unable to maintain the burn which became briefly out of control and scorched two acres of grass and two hay bales before crews got it under control. The individual was taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment.
