No injuries were reported and only minor damage was noted following a fire at a South Emporia residence Saturday afternoon.
Emporia, Americus and Olpe fire crews were called to 109 South Walnut for a structure fire just after 3:50 pm. According to Emporia Battalion Chief Tony Fuller, the fire developed on the front porch of the home after a cigarette receptacle caught fire.
The residents of the home had the fire extinguished when crews arrived on the scene. Fuller says the fire did scorch a corner of the porch and some siding but it did not extend further into or around the home.
Fire crews did have to remove a few pieces of the porch to check for hotspots, however, no further action was needed.
