The Emporia State track & field team set five school records at the David Suenram Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan. on Saturday. Mele Taula picked up wins throwing the javelin 153 feet-8 inches to break the school record before winning the shot put on her last attempt on a throw of 47 feet-3 inches. She’s currently ranked second in the country in the javelin. Trenden Collins finished second in the high jump with the third best leap in ESU history at 6 feet-11 inches. Jake Johnson had a provisional qualifying mark finishing second in the 400m hurdles while Travis Morrison picked up another provisional toss while finishing second in the shot put. Kingsley Bennett ran the 100m dash in 10.37 seconds for the third fastest time in ESU history while finishing ninth. ESU also had provisional marks in the 4x100m relay and in the women’s discus by Madison Vermitten. ESU is back in action at the Midwest Classic at Welch Stadium beginning Thursday.
