A small tree fire drew the attention of Emporia and Americus firefighters Monday evening.
Firefighters were dispatched to the 2700 block of Road K, nearly 10 miles due north of Emporia and about five miles northeast of Americus. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Tony Fuller says the fire got out of control and burned a few short cedar trees. The fire was put out before it could get into taller trees nearby.
Outdoor burns are likely areawide Tuesday and Wednesday. Light northeasterly winds all day Tuesday will increase slightly Wednesday. Blustery conditions are expected Thursday, meaning new outdoor burns will be discouraged or banned and landowners will be urged to check prior fires for the possibility of rekindles.
