The Flint Hills Gravel Ride and Run will celebrate its fourth year — and a lot of growth — this weekend.
Lead organizer Bobby Thompson says Saturday’s starting lines will be full with around 700 participants. Most of the participants will be riding.
Thompson says it’s already the second-biggest cycling event in Kansas, following Unbound Gravel, but he says he has no plans to go above 1,000 participants.
There are three bike ride lengths Saturday — around 30, 80 or 120 miles — and there are are three run lengths: a 6k, 10k and 21k. In addition, Wednesday features the TUFF Ventures Flint Hills Gravel Camp beginning at noon, a Mulreadys Pub group ride at 6:30 pm Thursday and a sponsor expo meet and greet and the Project Playscape spaghetti feed among Friday’s activities. Awards ceremonies will be sprinkled through the late morning through late afternoon hours Saturday.
