Formal charges are pending after what Emporia Police officers say was a chase and search Tuesday afternoon.
Police Capt. Ray Mattas says officers were trying to arrest Jose Salomon-Ambriz, age 56 of Emporia, around 4 pm for currently unlisted reasons. Officers were in the process of serving an arrest warrant while Salomon-Ambriz was parked in the 400 block of Mechanic, but Salomon-Ambriz allegedly fled and nearly hit two officers with his car.
After a short pursuit, Salomon-Ambriz’s car was found in an alley in the 400 block of Rural, so officers and Lyon County deputies set up a perimeter around the block and brought in a K-9 from the Kansas Highway Patrol. The K-9 followed tracks indicating Salomon-Ambriz had gone inside a nearby house.
Salomon-Ambriz surrendered and was arrested without further incident.
Officers booked Salomon-Ambriz on suspicion of aggravated assault on law enforcement, interference with law enforcement, flee and elude and the outstanding warrant.
