A man who had initially received prison time for sexual battery is now on probation.
Jovani Sotelo had been sentenced this past October to three counts of sex battery and had received three years in prison, or one year per county. On Tuesday, Lyon County District Judge Lee Fowler approved defense attorney Paul Dean’s probation request for 18 months.
Sotelo will have to complete sex offender evaluation and follow all related recommendations. He also cannot have any contact with the victim and must submit to random drug testing.
Sotelo was originally charged with two counts of rape and one of aggravated criminal sodomy after an incident in January 2023. Those charges were amended as part of a plea agreement reached in June.
