The Emporia State men’s track & field team won the Midwest Classic at Welch Stadium on Friday.
Aren Trost won the decathlon by over 500 points while Coby Smith took third for the Hornets. Zach Sulzen-Watson threw 160 feet-02 inches to take second in the men’s discus. Travis Morrison was second in the shot put while Aaron Hunt was third in the pole vault. Trenden Collins finished second in the high jump and ESU was second in the 4x400m relay. Jake Johnson won the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.25 and took second in the 110m hurdles. Tyler Swift was second in the 5000m run and took third in the 1500m run. Jack Wilson was the runner-up in the 400m dash while Ty Anderson finished first in the 100m dash with a time of 10.29 seconds.
The Emporia State women’s team finished fourth. Ashley Wildeman was third in the 100m dash while Abigael Reid won the 400m hurdles. The Lady Hornets took second in the 4x400m relay and Clarice Nichols won the long jump with a leap of 18 feet-7.25 inches. Ashley Cookson was third in the triple jump while Emma Seidl finished third in the shot put. Madison Vermetten placed third in the discus. ESU heads next to the KU Relays next week on Thursday at Rock Chalk Sports Park.
