This past fall, Walnut Elementary School had its last Turkey Day Dash. The tradition — and fundraiser — will live on for another entity.
Southwick House Executive Director Susan Brinkman says her agency will organize the 2024 Turkey Day Dash and will use the dash as a major fundraiser. Brinkman says the event will be held Nov. 28, and she tells KVOE News she is beyond pleased to offer the event to the community again. She says there will be a lot of familiar aspects to the Turkey Day Dash along with some new features.
Walnut held the Turkey Day Dash for 13 years before deciding to end the event last year, mentioning plans for a new signature fundraiser to benefit the Walnut PTO. Brinkman says Southwick House reached out to Walnut staff and school organizers have offered to help with event details.
Southwick House, formerly Plumb Place, is developing its model for offering transitional housing and support services to women in crisis situations, with conversations about children, families and pets underway. Brinkman says Southwick House is in the process of selecting a property and the operations model will largely be defined by that choice.
