The Salvation Army of Emporia is now less than a month away from its major spring food pantry filler.
The National Letter Carriers Association has its annual Stamp Out Hunger on May 11, and Salvation Army Capt. Mylie Hadden says a notable part of the food drive is returning.
Hadden says all non-perishable food items are needed, and she’s also asking for volunteers to help.
Separately, the Salvation Army has had a busy first half of April as it fields requests for emergency rent and utility assistance following the end of the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program application period March 29 and the Cold Weather Rule on March 31. Hadden says the Salvation Army didn’t receive the level of grant funding that it has in the past for that purpose, so she’s asking residents to inquire about the Lyon County Restricted Emergency Fund through ESB Financial.
