The #2 Central Missouri baseball team scored six runs in the top of the first and was never threatened in a 21-7 victory over Emporia State to begin a three-game series at the Trusler Sports Complex on Friday. An early pop-up was uncaught to trigger the run on the first ball in play of the game for the Mules and they never looked back batting around in the first and third innings to build a 13-1 lead. Logan Myers had the only run for ESU early on a solo homer in the bottom of the first to lead off for E-State. ESU hit four homers in the game but it wasn’t enough as UCM tallied three. Normal starter Cade Barton did not pitch for the Hornets and will miss the rest of the season with an elbow injury. Seth Stover (2-4) was the opener for ESU and took the loss. Head coach Brad Hill talked about the bad start that set UCM up for a big day.
T. J. Racherbaumer finished 2-for-2 with a double and a solo home run. Konner Hatfield and Joe Daneff also added homers for the Hornets. UCM and ESU meet again on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Coverage begins around 1:45 p.m. on Mix 104.9. Listen online at KVOE.com/listen or via the Audacy app.
