The #9 Pittsburg State softball team picked up two run-rule wins to sweep ESU in a doubleheader on Saturday at the Trusler Sports Complex.
Pitt State used a big sixth inning to take game one 13-3 in six innings. The teams traded runs in the first before Pitt State scored the next six runs in a row with three in the second and third. ESU plated two in the fourth but a six-run sixth inning ended any ESU hopes of a comeback. Gracie Rabe (8-9) took the loss. Brooke Flewelling provided the only offensive punch for the Lady Hornets with a two-run home run.
Pitt State got another big inning in game two to win 11-3 in five innings. Both teams were active early with PSU leading 4-3 after two. Alexis Dial drove in a run in the first while two came across on an error in the second for E-State. The Gorillas sent 11 to the plate and scored seven in the fourth and shut out the Lady Hornets the rest of the way for the win. Jordan Harrison (7-4) took the loss. PSU moved to 42-4 on the year and 16-2 in the MIAA while ESU falls to 28-19 and 12-12 in the conference. Emporia State has a bye week next week and will not play again until traveling to Kansas City, Mo. for a nonconference tilt against Rockhurst on April 23.
