Trial was supposed to begin Monday in a Lyon County child rape case, but that won’t happen now.
Dennis Ray Torrence accepted a plea agreement as part of a status hearing this month, using what is called an Alford plea on amended charges of attempted indecent liberties and attempted indecent solicitation. The Alford plea means Torrence proclaims innocence but admits there is enough evidence to convict.
Torrence had been facing two counts of rape and three of aggravated indecent liberties after alleged activity with a then-13-year-old in January 2023.
Sentencing is May 31.
